When to use

Use a blockquote to visually separate and emphasise short, meaningful excerpts. They are useful when you want to:

• highlight a quote from a person or publication
• present a key policy statement, legal excerpt or directive
• feature testimonials or feedback in promotional content
• draw attention to a memorable phrase or soundbite in long-form content.

Blockquotes enhance readability by breaking up dense text, helping users follow complex content. If the quoted material is not introduced or attributed in the surrounding text, always include a clear source citation.

When not to use

Avoid using blockquotes to:

• style standard body text – use paragraph formatting instead
• present long excerpts – keep quotations short and focused
• replace references or citations – always provide proper context.
